This policy describes what data the Cover Letter Writer Chrome extension ("the extension") collects, why, and what we do with it. The extension is published by Forged By Atlas, a sole proprietorship operated by Jacob Pixton.
The extension generates cover letters from your resume and a job description you paste in. To do this, we need a few pieces of information. We don't sell your data, we don't share it with advertisers, and we don't use it to train any AI models.
Account information. When you sign in, we store your email address and a session token. We use these to authenticate you across sessions. We send sign-in links to your email via Resend (transactional email provider).
Resume content. When you upload a resume file (PDF or DOCX), the file is parsed entirely in your browser. The file itself never leaves your device. We store only the extracted plain text of your resume on our servers so you don't have to re-upload it every time you generate a letter.
Contact information for letter headers. Your name, email, phone number, city/state, and LinkedIn URL. These are stored locally in your browser's storage (synced across your Chrome installations via Chrome's built-in sync). This information is not sent to our servers. It's inserted into your cover letter header on your device after the AI returns the letter body.
Voice training samples (optional). If you complete the optional voice training step, the three written responses you provide are stored on our servers. They're used as voice anchors when generating your cover letters. You can delete them at any time by clearing the extension's data.
Job descriptions and company notes. When you generate a cover letter, the job description and any optional company notes you paste are sent to our backend server, then forwarded to our AI provider. We do not store the job descriptions you paste.
Generated cover letters. Generated cover letter content is stored briefly in your browser's session storage so you don't lose it if you accidentally close the popup. It's cleared when you close the browser or sign out.
Usage logs. We log the timestamp and token counts (not content) of each generation so we can enforce daily limits and track our costs. We do not log the job description, the resume, or the generated letter content.
Payment information. If you subscribe to Pro, payment is handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card details. Stripe sends us a customer ID we use to track your subscription status.
OpenRouter (via DeepSeek and OpenAI models): Your resume text, voice samples (if applicable), and the job description you paste are sent to OpenRouter for AI generation. OpenRouter's privacy policy is at openrouter.ai/privacy.
Cloudflare: Our backend runs on Cloudflare Workers. Your requests pass through Cloudflare's infrastructure. Cloudflare's privacy policy is at cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.
Resend: Used to deliver sign-in magic link emails. Resend's privacy policy is at resend.com/legal/privacy-policy.
Stripe: Used for subscription payments. Stripe's privacy policy is at stripe.com/privacy.
Your stored resume text, voice samples, and email remain in our database until you request deletion or sign out for an extended period. Generated cover letters are not stored on our servers. Usage logs are retained for billing and quota purposes.
To delete all your data, email forgedbyatlas@proton.me from the email address you signed up with. We will delete your account and all associated data within 7 days.
To clear data stored locally in your browser, uninstall the extension or clear extension data from Chrome's settings.
The extension is not intended for use by children under 16. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has used the extension, contact us and we will delete the data.
If we materially change this policy, we'll update the "last updated" date at the top and, for substantive changes, notify users by email.
